Occupational First Aid Level 1 (BC)

Description

Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 is a one-day course designed to cover all medical techniques considered to be within the responsibility of the Occupational First Aid Level 1 Attendant as required by the Workers' Compensation Board of BC (WCB).  

Participants will learn: 

  • Priority Action Approach 

  • Primary Survey – Conscious patient / Unconscious patient 

  • Cervical spine control 

  • Airway and Breathing interventions 

  • Hemorrhage control 

  • One person CPR 

  • Minor injuries which require medical aid 

  • Management of soft tissue injuries 

  • Records and reports 

Class starts at 8:30 AM Sharp! No late participants will be admitted.

 
In order to be successful, participants must demonstrate practical skill competency and achieve 70% on a multiple-choice exam. On successful completion of the course, participants receive a 3-year certification. 

NOTE:  Participants will be working in pairs/groups and will have physical contact with each other during the practical portions of the course. Should you have any concerns about this, please reach out to us at training@icba.ca  

Important:  Photo ID is required to receive a certificate. 

 

Delivery Method: Classroom Session 

Course Fee Includes: All books and materials, and upon completion a certificate valid for 3 years. 

Prerequisites

Must be at least 16 years of age and be physically able to perform all of the First Aid tasks required to complete the learning tasks. No experience is necessary. 

Who Should Attend

This session is open to everyone over the age of 16. This WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level 1 training is intended for workplaces that are 20 minutes or less surface travel time from medical aid and covers the basics of keeping a patient alive until more qualified help can arrive.
