Description

Significant changes to Alberta OH&S legislation completed in 2020 came into effect on December 1st, 2021. These changes impact this course. AMHSA is in the process of updating all affected eLearning and instructor-led courses. As these updates are in process, a supplement has been created and uploaded to this course that will provide updated information on the new legislation. This legislation applies to Alberta residents. This Leaders in Safety online course is designed to help municipal supervisors understand their role in supporting their health and safety management system. It includes modules on the Supervisor’s Role; Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control; Formal Workplace Inspections; and Accident/Incident Investigation.

Designed for supervisors, this course helps participants understand their role in supporting their health and safety management system. This course consists of four modules:

  • Supervisor’s Role
  • Hazard Identification, Assessment, and Control
  • Formal Workplace Inspections
  • Accident/Incident Investigation

Course Topics:

Module 1 – Supervisors Role

Includes safety responsibilities, safety-related tasks, legislated responsibilities, and corporate culture.

  • Duration: Approximately 2 hours
  • Pass mark: 80%

Module 2 - Hazard Identification, Assessment, And Control

Includes how to recognize safety hazards, conduct assessments of work activities, and control identified hazards.

  • Duration: Approximately 2 hours
  • Pass mark: 80%
  • Attempts: 3

 Module 3 – Formal Workplace Inspections

Includes how to conduct effective work site inspections; the difference between a hazard assessment and inspections; and how to interpret observations, document findings, and develop appropriate recommendations.

  • Duration: Approximately 2 hours
  • Pass mark: 80%
  • Attempts: 3

 Module 4 – Accident/Incident Investigation

Includes when and why investigations are necessary, and steps to follow when conducting an investigation.

  • Duration: Approximately 2 hours
  • Pass mark:80%

This course contains 8 technical hours.  

 

CEUs & BCRSP 

This course may be eligible for 0.8 CEUs for the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) – Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD Program) for the purpose of recertification in maintaining the BCRSP certification.

Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available to download and print. This course is recommended to be retaken every 3 years from the course completion date indicated on the certificate.
