Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) for the Construction Industry

Many new RFQs now contain some references or requirements about environmental, social, or governance practices. Why should you care?

1. You need to know what ESG is so you can help your clients meet their RFQ requirements 

2. You can attract clients who are concerned about ESG 

3. You can be a better citizen and contribute to the better health and good of society.

So, what is ESG? ESG refers to three key non-financial categories in evaluating a company's risk profile and performance – environment, social, and governance. With so many international regulatory acronyms and rating systems, navigating the world of ESG can seem confusing. ESG is also evolving, with disclosure and rating criteria that can vary based on various factors. That's why ESG is unique to each company, with different starting points and different opportunities. Most companies already have some ESG practices in place, so no company ever starts from scratch.

ESG concerns will have a growing influence on the construction sector in the coming years. The construction industry is keen to act on ESG issues, but more transparency and consistent reporting will be required to maintain this progress.

This course is delivered in partnership with local and provincial construction associations across Canada. You may be participating with a group of industry peers from multiple regions.

Sharing a single registration between two or more individuals is not permitted. Please register each person that will be in attendance.

There are no prerequisites for this course.  Please be aware that this course shares some common course material with the Site Surveying 101 session.  Participants taking both sessions may find the course material slightly repetitive.

This course is designed for anyone that would like a better understanding of environmental, social and governance practices. 

1. Computer or laptop

• • This course will involve on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content (slides or videos), and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, cell phones may not be adequate. 

  • Windows 10 or Mac iOS. 

2. Webcam (Mandatory)– in order to engage and collaborate, participants will be expected to have their webcams on for the duration of the class

3. Microphone (Mandatory)

4. Internet connection- For best results, you will want to ensure you have an internet connection with an upload/download speed of 3-5 Mbps. You can test your internet speed here. The minimum recommended speed is 1.5 Mbps, but anything below 3 Mbps may result in loss of quality or buffering. Ideally hardwired connection versus wireless for stability - connect your computer directly to your router using an ethernet cable, rather than using your home wi-fi.

5. A quiet space with minimal distractions –The microphone will be engaged for interactive sessions. Please plan to be fully engaged in the class and clear your work schedule just as you would for the in-class program.
