Basic First Aid (BC) - CSA Standard (Taught by 3rd party WorkSafeBC approved providers)

Description
This course aligns with the CSA Standard CSA Z1210-17 and replaces the current Occupational First Aid Level 1 course. It is designed to meet the regulatory changes that come into effect on November 1, 2024. The Basic First Aid course is a one-day (8-hour) program providing lifesaving first aid skills to workers in the industry.
Participants will learn how to:
- Conduct the Priority Action Approach
- Understand the Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aid Attendant
- Make Appropriate Medical Referral Decisions
- Identify and Manage Airway Emergencies
- Identify and Manage Breathing Emergencies
- Identify and Manage Circulatory Emergencies
- Perform CPR and Use an AED
- Identify and Manage Bleeding Emergencies
- Identify and Manage Common Medical Emergencies
- Manage Responsive and Unresponsive Patients
- Conduct a Secondary Survey
- Identify and Manage a Patient in Shock
- Identify and Manage Minor Injuries
- Identify and Manage Burn Injuries
Important Notes:
- Class starts at the indicated start time Sharp! No late participants will be admitted.
- Photo ID is required to receive a certificate.
- Participants will work in pairs/groups and have physical contact with each other during the practical portions of the course. Should you have any concerns about this, please reach out to us at training@icba.ca
Certification Information
- To qualify for certification, candidates must participate in a minimum of 7 hours (not including breaks) of training and successfully complete the course objectives as taught and evaluated by a person authorized by the Workers’ Compensation Board of B.C. (WorkSafeBC).
- Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of completion of the basic training course.
- To renew a basic certificate, a candidate must successfully retake the basic course.
Delivery Method: Classroom Session
Course Fee Includes: All books and materials, and upon completion a certificate valid for 3 years.
Prerequisites
Candidates must be able to understand and perform the first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.

Course Credit Information
The course is eligible for 2 CCA Gold Seal education credits with the Canadian Construction Association.
Registrants seeking gold seal credits for this course will be required to submit to CCA a copy of their certificate of completion.
