Coaching is essentially a conversation between a coach and an employee. It involves helping individuals access what they already know, rather than telling them what you think they should do. As a coach, you assist, support, and encourage employees to find their answers. In the process, employees build both skills and autonomy. Coaching is more about asking the right questions than providing answers – a coach collaborates with the employee to establish and clarify purpose and goals and develop a plan of action to achieve these goals.

- Understand the components of a coaching mindset
- Know when to coach and when to instruct
- Understand how to effectively use the “from telling to asking” continuum for employees with different experiences, skills, and motivation levels
- Explore types of questions, their purpose, and when to use them
- Learn how to ask thought-provoking and probing questions that encourage reflection and exploration
- Understand the importance of listening to truly understand instead of to respond
- Understand the steps of the GROW model and how to use it to encourage growth and development

This course is delivered in partnership with local and provincial construction associations across Canada. You will be participating with a group of industry peers from multiple regions.
