Precision Writing for Construction Professionals: Emails, Letters, Proposals, and Report
Gold Seal: 1 Credit * BC Housing: 7.5 CPD Points
Description
What are the key elements of an effectively written document? What should I focus on in my emails, letters, bids, proposals, work plans, reports, and documentation? How do I tailor my writing for different audiences, ranging from technical to non-technical audiences?
Potential clients often judge you based on whether you can clearly articulate the services you provide. Clients may skim your documents, so you need to ensure that your content is organized and that your key points stand out. Your ability to clearly and concisely convey your ideas are important.
This course is focused on helping you to do exactly that: to write more effectively. You’ll learn to tailor your writing for your audience and purpose. You’ll apply the strategies required for effective scope documents, standard operating procedures, letters, reports (including incident reports, progress updates, compliance documentation), proposals (project bids and responses to RFPs), and more. You’ll learn how to plan and adapt your writing for different audience groups (coworkers, whether in the office or in the field, external audiences including potential customers, and more).
We’ll cover multiple topics, including:
1. Tailoring your writing for technical and non-technical audiences (or industry and non-industry audiences)
2. Writing concisely and avoiding common errors
3. Writing effective emails and letters
4. Planning and writing clear scope documents and standard operating procedures
5. Responding to bids and proposals (including bidding on government contracts and private-sector clients)
6. Structuring your reports and project documentation
7. Understanding and applying generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve your writing
8. Applying key principles for editing and revising your documents
Course Fee Includes: Access to the course, course materials (including reference materials such as the presentation deck, workshop materials, tip sheets for emails, letters, and more), and a digital certificate upon completion.
